NIAGARA FALLS -- A North Avenue man was injured early Thursday when he was shot in the left hand during an assault at a Centre Avenue home.
Octavius L. Miller, 22, was being treated late Thursday afternoon for a gunshot wound to his hand and three fingers in Erie County Medical Center's emergency room. Hospital officials said they did not know whether he would be admitted.
The incident occurred at 5:45 a.m. in an apartment on Centre Avenue when another person apparently shot Miller with what was believed to be a handgun, Detective Patricia McCune said.
Police were still trying to determine the motive for the shooting. McCune said she and detectives Patrick Corsaro and John Olander were able to discover the name of a possible suspect.
Two Falls men arrested
in separate burglaries
NIAGARA FALLS -- Two people were arrested late Wednesday in separate burglaries, police said.
Jamal R. Swanson, 16, of Niagara Street, was charged with burglary and criminal possession of stolen property at 5:30 p.m. in the 2200 block of Falls Street by Detective James Galie, police said.
Id-Deen Masir, 51, of Elmwood Avenue, was charged with burglary, petit larceny and criminal possession of burglar tools at 9:03 p.m. by officers Steven Baum and Christopher Clark at 909 Niagara Ave. Further details were not available.
Unattended stove blamed
for Linwood Avenue fire
NIAGARA FALLS -- An unattended pot on a stove was blamed for a fire which did $2,000 damage Thursday to a Linwood Avenue home, fire officials said.
The fire started at about 2:20 p.m. when the pot's contents ignited and flames spread to a nearby wall. About $500 damage was done to the house and $1,500 damage was done to its contents. No injuries were reported. The house is owned and occupied by Pricilla Cox, fire officials said.
