Howard L. Voelker, 77, of Lewiston, a World War II veteran who worked at Carborundum Co. for 41 years, died Sunday (May 18, 2003) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, after a long illness.
He was born in Niagara Falls and attended North Junior High School and Niagara Falls High.
He served with the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II.
At Carborundum, he worked in the diamond wheel department, retiring in 1983.
He was a member of the Carborundum Alumni and Lutheran Church of the Messiah and was an exempt member of Lewiston Fire Company No. 1.
Survivors include his wife, the former M. Emily Romano of Lewiston, and two sisters, Alsace L. Neal of Benton, Ill., and Lenora Gunkel of West Palm Beach, Fla.
Private services were held today. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
