The new highway was complet ed a few years ago to accommodate Wal-Mart whose site adjoins Home Depot. Office Max also has a store on the new street.
Town officials say construction could start in mid-June and be completed five months later. The site will have parking for about 675 vehicles.
The Home Depot sells tools and home improvement and garden supplies.
The proposed store will mea sure 105,000 square feet, and the garden center 29,000 square feet. In recent years, an expanded Tops Market, Kmart and a strip mall with a half-dozen retailers have turned the area northwest of the city into a major shopping cen ter.
