Walter O. Kaminski, 91, of Lackawanna, who operated Lackawanna markets for more than 50 years, died Saturday (May 17, 2003) in Mercy Hospital after a brief illness.
He operated Walter's OK Market on Electric Avenue from 1939 to 1947 and Kaminski's Food Market on Ridge Road from 1947 to 1997. He was a 1948 graduate of the National School of Meat Cutting.
He was former president of the Ushers Society at St. Barbara's Catholic Church and a member of the Holy Name Society. He also was a member of the Lackawanna Small Businessmen's Association.
Kaminski visited Poland five times and enjoyed playing the accordion and organ and singing.
His wife of 60 years, Jane J. Gonsiorek Kaminski, died in 2000.
He is survived by two sons, Joseph W. of Angola and James J. of Lackawanna, and two grandchil-dren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Barbara's Church, 551 Ridge Road, Lackawanna, after prayers at 9 in Joseph M. Litwin Funeral Home, 1628 Electric Ave., Lackawanna. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lackawanna.
