SISTER M. TOBIA PATRO, LONGTIME TEACHER

A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister M. Tobia Patro will be offered at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Immaculate Conception Convent Chapel, 5286 South Park Avenue, Hamburg. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Cheektowaga.

Sister Patro died Sunday (May 18, 2003) in Colette Hilbert Health Center, Hamburg. She was 91.

The Baltimore native entered the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph in 1932 and professed her perpetual vows in 1937. She received a bachelor's degree in education from Medaille College.

Sister Patro taught elementary school pupils for 51 years in Massachusetts, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan, New Jersey, Maryland, Connecticut and New York.

In 1985, she began semi-retirement at the convent in Hamburg. She was known for her creativity and often made crafts for the art room. She began residing in the health center in 1998.

Survivors include two sisters, Florence Funderburk of Morrisville, Pa., and Agnes Chojnowski of Baltimore.
