NORTH TONAWANDA -- Niagara County Legislator William M. Davignon and Alderman Philip R. Rizzo will hold a joint constituent meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Dom Polski Club, 576 Oliver St.
Niagara County District Attorney Matthew J. Murphy III will be the guest speaker, discussing the functions of his office.
Davignon and Rizzo, whose districts have the same boundaries, will speak and take questions on the full range of current city and county issues, including the new county manager, the future of the county building on Wheatfield Street, terrace parking and the city Fire Department study.
Matalavage to seek Legislature seat
NEWFANE -- Alexandra Matalavage, owner of an Olcott convenience store and a former sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, has announced her candidacy for 18th District Niagara County legislator as a Democrat. The district covers most of Newfane and all of Somerset.
Matalavage, a mother of three, served six years in the Marines, earning the Navy Achievement Medal for her service when stationed on Okinawa.
She owns Mad Dog's Mini Mart, and her family has been doing business in Newfane since 1977. Matalavage's mother, Carol Murphy, owns Murphy Orchards.
Matalavage, 36, is a charter member of the Krull/Olcott Development Committee, of which she is the current co-chairwoman. She also volunteers as a lacrosse and field hockey coach.
