A memorial service for Ronald A. Gemsheim, a former Buffalo resident, will be held at 8:30 p.m. today in Broomall, Pa.
Gemsheim, 62, of Media, Pa., died Friday (May 16, 2003) in Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital, Darby, Pa.
He was born in Buffalo and was 1959 graduate of Burgard Vocational High School.
For 35 years, he worked as a customer service agent for United Airlines, beginning in Buffalo and ending up in Philadelphia. He retired in 2001. He left the Buffalo area in the early 1970s.
For the past two years, he worked as a driver for Express Park, an airport parking service, in Essington, Pa.
Gemsheim was a Vietnam War-era veteran of the Air Force.
He also was a volunteer emergency medical technician for the Dale City (Va.) Fire Department.
He enjoyed golf and telling a good joke, according to his wife of 20 years, the former Janet Wills of Media.
He served as president of the Mainliners Club, a social organization for employees of United Airlines, and was a member of the Parent Council and Scholarship Fund at Beaver College in Glenside, Pa.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Ronald Jr. of Fredericksburg, Va., and Timothy of the Town of Tonawanda; a stepson, Brian Read of Oaklyn, N.J.; a stepdaughter, Heather Read of Media; and four grandchildren.
