Stephen J. Gay, controller at Buffalo Hardwood Floor Center, died Thursday (May 15, 2003) in Hospice Buffalo after a brief illness. He was 50.

Born in Rochester, Gay graduated summa cum laude in 1986 from the University at Buffalo, where he majored in English literature. He had worked at Buffalo Hardwood Floor Center for 20 years.

Gay enjoyed gardening, reading and writing.

Survivors include his wife, the former Pamela A. Grabowski of Buffalo; two daughters, Lauren R. and Claire M., both of Buffalo; a son, Kevin J. of Buffalo; his mother, Sophie of Rochester; three sisters, Maryann Wood and Karen Lada, both of Rochester, and Ellen Higgins of Chicago; and four brothers, John and Mark, both of Rochester, Brian of Denver and Tim of Poughkeepsie.

Services will be held at noon Sunday in Amigone Funeral Home, 2600 Sheridan Drive, Town of Tonawanda.
