A memorial service for Lawrence L. Hagerman of Grand Island, a retired department supervisor for Occidental Chemical Corp. who was active in the Grand Island Fire Company, will be held at 1 p.m. May 24 in St. Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church, 2587 Baseline Road, Grand Island.
A reception will follow in the Grand Island Fire Hall.
Hagerman, 81, died last Friday (May 9, 2003) in Kenmore Mercy Hospital.
Born in Niagara Falls, he graduated from Warsaw High School and served in the Army in North Africa during World War II. He retired from Occidental Chemical in 1980 after 40 years with the company and its forerunner.
A longtime member of the Grand Island Fire Company, Hagerman served as its financial secretary for 47 years. He served on the first-aid squad and fire police and was a member of the board of directors for 32 years.
He was a member of Charles N. DeGlopper Post 9249, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Grand Island Post 1346, American Legion.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, the former Rita Kavanaugh; two daughters, Jela of Perry and Marla Wilkerson of Batavia; a son, Eric of Tampa, Fla.; four stepsons, James Robillard of Houston, Robert Robillard of Boonsboro, Md., John Robillard of Rome, Ga., and Daniel Robillard of Grand Island; 20 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
