ALEX TERPAY, RETIRED DUNLOP WORKER

Services for Alex Terpay, 85, a World War II veteran and retired Dunlop Tire Corp. employee, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Lester H. Wedekindt Funeral Home, 3290 Delaware Ave., Town of Tonawanda.

Burial, with military honors, will be in Elmlawn Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda.

Terpay died Saturday (May 10, 2003) in Southern Ocean County Hospital, Manahawkin, N.J., after a long illness.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., Terpay came to the Buffalo area as a child with his family and later attended Kenmore High School. He was a maintenance worker at Dunlop.

During World War II, Terpay was part of the occupying army in Germany, where he supervised displaced people during the rebuilding effort. He attained the rank of corporal. After the war, he returned to Dunlop, from which he retired in 1976.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, the former Priscilla Balla; two sons, Alexander F. of Leslie, Mich., and Robert J. of Manahawkin; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
