Mary B. Currie, 80, a retired registered nurse, died Tuesday (Nov. 26, 2002) in Niagara Lutheran Home after a long illness.
The former Mary Barbee was born in Drakes Branch, Va., and had lived in Buffalo for more than 50 years.
Mrs. Currie earned her nursing degree at what is now Roswell Park Cancer Institute, from which she retired in 1984 after a career as a registered nurse and medical secretary. She was a member of Roswell Park's 25 Year Club.
Honored for service in several organizations, Mrs. Currie was a member of Free Spirit Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a deaconess and served on the Usher Board. She also was a member of the Urban League and its Guild.
She enjoyed crocheting and quilting.
Survivors include her husband of 18 years, Oda Verlon Currie of Buffalo; two daughters, Verlaine Quinniey of Amherst and Jacqueline of Buffalo; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in Second Temple Baptist Church, 812 E. Delavan Ave. Burial will be in Forest Lawn.
