Two administrators will be moving into new positions in the Cheektowaga Central School District.
Union East Elementary House Principal Mary A. Morris will start Monday in the newly-created post of associate director of pupil services.
Assistant Superintendent Delia G. Bonenberger said there is a great deal of work to do in the pupil services department.
"In recent years, there's been more and more laws and regulations and procedures," she said. "We needed to augment the staff."
Because of the changes in state standards, all students must pass the Regents exams to graduate. As a result, there has been more staff hired, and more coordination is needed between staff members, she said.
There has not been a large increase in the number of students receiving special services, she said, adding "mostly it's a difference in the way we serve them."
Morris has worked in the district for 11 years.
Cheryl Buggs was appointed Tuesday by the School Board to be the Middle School principal on a three-year probationary status, effective Feb. 3.
The board had made it clear in June that it intended to make her the new principal when she was given the responsibility for planning and implementation of the middle school program.
Buggs serves as assistant principal in the Junior/Senior High, and oversees the seventh and eighth grades. She joined the district in 1995 as director of athletics and dean of students.
In other actions, the School Board appointed Pine Hill teacher Susan Cain to be the administrative intern at Union East from Monday until June 30, 2003. The board also gave Superintendent Leslie B. Lewis the authority to appoint an elementary teacher or teaching assistant to replace Cain for the remainder of the year. If a teaching assistant is appointed, the board gave the superintendent the authority to hire a new teaching assistant.
