Herman E. Gabel Jr., 83, a retired electrical engineer formerly of Snyder, died in his Clearwater, Fla., home Thursday (Nov. 21, 2002) after a long illness.
Born in Leonia, N.J., Gabel graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and served as a captain in the U.S. Army during World War II. The electrical engineer went to work for Niagara Transformer Corp. in Cheektowaga in 1947, and worked there until his retirement in 1985 with the title of executive vice president. After retirement, he moved to Clearwater.
Gabel is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Marjorie Edwards; a son, Peter of Concord, Mass.; two daughters, Wendy Baum of Buffalo and Sharon Drumm of South Glastonbury, Conn.; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were private. Burial was in Bay Pines National Cemetery, Pasadena, Fla.
