John W. Girod Sr., 77, died Wednesday (Nov. 20, 2002) in Erie County Medical Center, Buffalo.
He was born in Fairmont, W. Va.
Girod was a decorated veteran of World War II, in which he served as a paratrooper in the Army's 101st Division. He received a Purple Heart.
He was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church in the Town of Niagara.
Girod is survived by a son, John W. Jr., and a daughter, Linda Beckwith, both of Niagara Falls; two sisters, Ellen Retton of Niagara Falls and Mary Paknik of South Carolina; four grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. today in Otto Redanz Funeral Home, 2215 Military Road, Town of Niagara. Entombment is in Forest Lawn, Buffalo.
