Rita P. Caldwell, a lifelong resident of Buffalo, died Saturday (Nov. 16, 2002) in Erie County Medical Center after a battle with liver and kidney disease. She was 53.
Born Rita P. Brown, she attended Buffalo schools.
In 1992, she rededicated her life to Christianity. She was a member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
Six years later, she became the sole caretaker of two grandchildren.
Mrs. Caldwell enjoyed fishing, traveling and cooking.
Her husband, Ross, died in 1998.
Surviving are two daughters, Dawn McDuffie and Niama Adams, both of Buffalo; a son, Albert Adams of South Carolina; her mother, Flossie Brown of Buffalo; a sister, Bobby Stevenson of Buffalo; a brother, Wilmer Brown Jr. of Sacramento, Calif.; and six grandchildren.
Services were held today in New Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Burial was in Forest Lawn.
