An auto components plant and a pharmaceutical research company, both in suburban Rochester, are shutting down by next summer, putting around 300 jobs in jeopardy.
ITT Industries will close its fluid-handling systems plant next July because of a slowdown in the economy. The factory in the suburb of Gates employs 94 people.
Wyeth Lederle Vaccines is accelerating plans to leave the Rochester area and also will close its laboratories and offices in the suburb of Henrietta by the summer, it said.
The departure affects more than 200 employees, many of them in advanced research posts. The company had earlier announced plans to consolidate vaccine research operations in Pearl River, north of New York City, in either 2004 or 2005.
