A Mass of Christian Burial for Michael V. Miranda Sr., who operated Miranda Real Estate in the University Heights area, was offered Friday in St. Benedict's Catholic Church, Eggertsville. Entombment was in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cheektowaga.
Miranda, 90, of Snyder, died Nov. 12, 2002, in Buffalo General Hospital after a brief illness.
He and his wife opened the agency in 1966 and operated it for 30 years. Before that, Miranda was division manager of the Delaware-North office of Prudential Insurance Co., earning numerous awards.
A past president of the University Heights Businessmen's Association, Miranda successfully lobbied for wheelchair-accessible curbs in the neighborhood on behalf of the Western New York Independent Living Project.
A charter member of the Romulus Club, he organized social events in his early years, booking such entertainers as Perry Como and Frank Sinatra.
Miranda was a past director of the Greater Buffalo Board of Associated Realtors and was an honorary member of the Independent Appraisers.
He was a member of St. Margaret's Catholic Church for 43 years and was a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Born in Buffalo, Miranda worked for M. Wile & Co. in the early 1930s and then founded Eagle Suit Co. During World War II he was active with civil defense.
His wife of more than 50 years, Rose Masiello Miranda, died in the late 1990s.
Survivors include a daughter, Michele Prise of Clarence; two sons, Anthony M. of Angola and Michael V. Jr. of Snyder; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
