Dominic Spacone Jr., longtime president of Local 7696, Civil Service Employees Association, and founder and longtime president of Niagara Education Local 872, died Monday (Nov. 18, 2002) in his home after a lengthy illness. He was 73.
Spacone was born in Niagara Falls and attended local schools.
He worked in the carpentry shop for the Niagara Falls Board of Education for 28 years, retiring in 1991.
He served for 25 years as CSEA Unit 7696 president and for 22 years with Niagara Educational Local 872. He served on the board of directors for the CSEA and was chairman of its statewide local government committee. He also served in numerous county and statewide offices and committees.
Spacone was a 25-year third-degree honorary member of Council 247, Knights of Columbus, in Niagara Falls. He enjoyed golfing, gardening and restoring antique furniture.
He and his wife, the former Nina LeSacchi, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Donna M. Gilreath of Lewiston and Diane E. of Youngstown; two sons, Nicholas P. of New Port Richey, Fla., and David of Niagara Falls; two brothers, David and Gino, both of Lewiston; and nine grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Peter's Catholic Church, 620 Center St., after prayers at 9:30 in M.J. Colucci and Son Funeral Chapel, 468 19th St., Niagara Falls. Entombment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
