The hardest jobs to fill locally are professional occupations, health service jobs, social workers and food service staff, according to a survey conducted by area chambers of commerce.
WNY Works surveyed 600 companies and found 10,957 job openings in Erie and Niagara counties as of July 1, according to survey results released Tuesday. The information is dated because it does not account for the tremendous economic and social impact of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack.
The greatest number of openings were in the fields of production, construction, laborers and retail, according to the survey.
WNY Works is a collaboration between the Buffalo Niagara Partnership, Amherst Chamber of Commerce and Niagara Falls Chamber of Commerce. The program seeks to better link Buffalo Niagara education and training institutions to the needs of area employers.
