I read with great interest The News columns by Robert McCarthy and Donn Esmonde discussing the tactics of Erie County Democratic Party Chairman Steve Pigeon and his cronies. Each article touched on the financing of campaigns to unseat County Legislators Greg Olma and Al DeBenedetti. It sounds to me as if there may have been a little hanky-panky with the money. Why and how do these people keep getting away with this? I'll tell you why - because we the voters keep letting them. No matter how bad the things they do are, we keep voting for the people they support.
We do have a choice, even if every line - Democratic, Republican, Conservative, etc. - is taken. We can legally write in a vote for someone we feel could do a better job. If people are unhappy with the way the Democrats are running things, then vote for another line or write in a name. We need to let the people in charge know that we are not pleased with the direction they are pointing us.
