A memorial Mass for Joanne Sgalia, a Buffalo native, will be offered at 10:45 a.m. Saturday in St. John Neumann Shrine Chapel, Belmont and Englewood avenues, Town of Tonawanda.
She died Aug. 28, 2001, in Hartford (Conn.) Medical Center after an 11-year battle with breast cancer. She was 52.
Born in Buffalo, she grew up in Dover, N.J., and had resided in Hartford for about 25 years. She was a graduate of Marywood College, Scranton, Pa., and a member of Hartford Lodge 18, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
She is survived by a daughter, Carmen Marie Labarces of Manchester, Conn.; a son, Jonathan I. Labarces of Manchester; her parents, Dr. Arthur C. and Josephine Sgalia of East Dorset, Vt.; and two brothers, Paul M. Sgalia of Cuttingsville, Vt., and Dr. Arthur C. Sgalia, Wrentham, Mass.
