A Mass of Christian Burial for Wadsworth C. "Chick" Hayes, a former assistant vice president of Marine Midland Bank, will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Monday in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 1085 Englewood Ave., Town of Tonawanda. Burial will be Ridge Lawn Cemetery, Cheektowaga.
Hayes, 92, of Kenmore, died Thursday (Oct. 25, 2001) in Sisters Hospital after a brief illness.
After working in banking for nearly 50 years, Hayes retired in 1973 as assistant vice president of the Marine Midland Bank in Buffalo's Rand Building.
He was a talented golfer who caddied at the Country Club of Buffalo -- now Grover Cleveland Golf Course -- and was a pinsetter when pin machines were introduced in local bowling centers. Hayes was nicknamed "Chick" after Charles "Chick" Evans Jr., a once-prominent national golfer.
Known for his quick wit and storytelling ability, Evans enjoyed feeding birds and gardening.
He was a graduate of Hutchinson-Central High School and a member of the Kiwanis Club of Buffalo, Brighton Park Men's Golf League, Holy Name Society of St. John the Baptist Church, and several bowling leagues.
Hayes is survived by his wife, Jane C.; a daughter, Lynn Donovan of Clayton, Calif.; two sons, Robert of Apple Valley, Calif., and Charles of Buffalo; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
