RUNNING GAME

BILLS (D): Henry averaged only 2.4 a carry against tough defense. Bills could not run on first down. Johnson's scrambling was incredible all game.

CHARGERS (B-): Tomlinson had 71 yards at half but finished with only 76. Chargers got away from the run. Flutie made patented play on TD.

PASSING GAME

BILLS (A): Rob was like John Wayne: True Grit. Peerless was huge. Moulds made a great play. O-line was hobbling and got outplayed but hung in there.

CHARGERS (A): Flutie made pretty throws and Bolts' receivers made some superb catches. Doug did not throw any interceptions.

RUN DEFENSE

BILLS (C): Could have been worse. Played just sturdy enough to discourage Bolts from pounding it. Pat Williams, Keith Newman had crucial stops.

CHARGERS (A): Harrison is a great safety and supported run like a demon. Junior Seau is one of the all-time greats. Parrella was fierce.

PASS DEFENSE

BILLS (C): Secondary never got beat deep. Pass rush had key pressures at good times. But Price missed Flutie on winning TD. Bolts made good plays, too.

CHARGERS (C): DE's Wiley and Johnson made life miserable for Rob. Beckett blew coverage on Price TD. But Bolts got INT return for TD.

SPECIAL TEAMS

BILLS (F): Ugh. It was a great game until Jenkins' kickoff return. Did someone put a curse on this unit?

CHARGERS (A): Richey missed two key kicks. Bennett had mediocre punts. But No. 1 return unit came through big time at end.

COACHING

BILLS (B): Team didn't panic when it almost got blown out early. Offense rebounded from awful start. Defense hung mostly tough. The team battled.

CHARGERS (B ): Give Chargers' special teams credit. They are as good as advertised. Defense blitzed a ton and threw every punch in arsenal.
