Chef demos

There are big doings going on as part of the semiannual Homeworks Week celebration. Scott Donhauser, executive chef at Daffodil's, is scheduled to cook and teach from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday at the Bon Ton store in Eastern Hills Mall. And the chain will keep other local chefs busy, too. Ken Wierzbicki from Jack Astor's Bar and Grill shows up on successive Sundays, Nov. 11 and Nov. 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Walden Galleria store. Samuel Pinelli III, from Ilio DiPaolo's, will be at Southgate Mall on Wednesday, Nov. 14 from noon to 2 p.m. And Mark Marotto from Marotto's will be in Sheridan Plaza on Thursday, Nov. 15 from 6 to 8 p.m.


Word has reached us that the "City of Light" event held by the Buffalo Niagara Enterprise in Dallas last week as a promotion for prospective developers earned excellent reviews. Chefs Michael Andrzejewski of Oliver's, Andy DiVincenzo of Billy Ogden's, Paul Jenkins of the Buffalo Club, Bill Panzica of Butterwood Desserts and Sam Reda of the Brownstone Bistro - all attired in natty "I am Buffalo Niagara" chefs jackets - really wowed them. with the likes of Cappuccino Wild Mushroom Bisque, Boneless Chinatown Duck and Steamed Dumpling of Merguez Sausage and Coriander Sauce. It was a big leap from chicken wings. Of course, the accompanying reproductions from the Albright Knox and music of Them Jazzbeards didn't exactly hurt.

Consuming Passions

Sumptuous hors d'oeuvres, succulent desserts, super wines and snappy music are the features of Hallwells Contemporary Art Center's 9th annual "Consuming Passion" event, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 9 at 2495 Main St. Food from some of the best restaurants in the area will be represented, along with piano music by Kevin Doyle.
