LOCKPORT -- The union that represents Niagara County sheriff's deputies endorsed 13 candidates for the County Legislature Thursday.

Local 1-2001 of the Paper, Allied Industrial, Chemical and Energy Workers International Union made its choices after a series of candidate forums last week which focused on the threat of layoffs of deputies in the county's 2002 budget.

The deputies endorsed, in the 1st District, Dominic J. Luna, R; 5th District, Sean J. O'Connor, D-incumbent; 6th District, David J. Faccini, D; 7th District, Wayne A. Lenhart, D; 8th District, William L. Ross, C-incumbent; 9th District, William M. Davignon, D; 10th District, Peter E. Smolinski, R.

Also, 13th District, Clyde L. Burmaster, R-incumbent; 15th District, Harry J. Apolito, D; 16th District, John W. Cole III, D-incumbent; 17th District, Bradley E. Erck, D-incumbent; 18th District, James W. Ward, R-incumbent; 19th District, Gerald E. Meal, R-incumbent.
