Nancy H. Stengel, 38, of North Collins, an animal keeper at the Buffalo Zoo, died Tuesday (Oct. 23, 2001) in Millard Fillmore Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Buffalo, she graduated from Sacred Heart Academy and Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, Pa. She also studied in the master's program at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
In 1989, she went to work at the Buffalo Zoo as an animal keeper and held the job until her death.
She was a founding member of the Western New York Chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers, a member of the American Association of Zoos and Aquariums, the American Association of Aviculture and the Buffalo Zoological Society.
She is survived by her parents, Helen and James, and two brothers, Michael of Memphis, Tenn., and Peter of Riva, Md.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 2050 South Creek Road, North Evans. Burial will be in St. Vincent's Cemetery, Eden.
