TOURISM PACKAGE AIMS TO LURE FAMILIES TO AREA

A new promotion marries Buffalo's two family museums in an effort to lure the minivans up from Erie, Pa., and other nearby markets.

The Buffalo Niagara Convention and Visitors Bureau is offering a deal for as little as $69 which includes a hotel room and admission for four to the Buffalo Zoo and the Buffalo Museum of Science.

The package is being advertised in Rochester, Syracuse, Binghamton, Ithaca, Elmira, and select Pennsylvania and Ontario markets. The promotion was launched at the end of September and runs through Jan. 6.

The package has a "2 zoos" theme because the Buffalo Museum of Science is running a robot zoo exhibit with a robotic giraffe, rhinoceros and other animals.

"We felt this was a wonderful opportunity to create some synergy between two of the area's favorite attractions and give families an incentive to visit Buffalo," said David Lacki, director of tourism for the Buffalo Niagara CVB.

The 24 participating hotels range from family budget inns, such as the Super 8 in Amherst, to full-service properties, such as the Holiday Inn Grand Island.
