Gilbert G. Gau, 89, a retired sheet metal worker, died Monday (Oct. 22, 2001) in Kenmore Mercy Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Buffalo, he was employed as a sheet metal worker at Roswell Park Cancer Institute for 20 years, retiring in 1974.
A former Town of Tonawanda resident, he had been living at the Weinberg Campus, Getzville.
Known as a strong, quiet family man, he enjoyed gardening, dancing and bowling. He was an avid reader.
He and his wife, the former Dorothy M. Wittmer, were married in 1936.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Gail Gardner of Buffalo and Doreen Spina of the Town of Tonawanda; two brothers, Elmer and Kenneth, both of Buffalo; a sister, Arlene Weigel of Fredericksburg, Pa.; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be private.
