Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus is seeking a permanent music director, beginning July 1, 2002. The successful applicant will be responsible for preparing the chorus for performances with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as planning, preparing and conducting the separate seasons of the chorus and its smaller chamber choir. Holding auditions for the choir's core of paid singers is also expected. Applicants should have a bachelor's degree in music with choral training and broad knowledge of major choral works. Alleyway Theatre is now auditioning for adult singing and non-singing roles for its December production of "A Christmas Carol," adapted by Neal Radice from the classic Charles Dickens' tale. Calls for Works

Submission deadline is Nov. 1 for Buffalo Ensemble Theatre's Area Playwrights' Performance Series, the theater's annual new play competition. All styles, lengths and topics of previously unproduced plays are acceptable. The selected play will be produced by BET at the end of its 2002-2003 season. Submission must be by current or former residents of the Western New York area, and a $15 submission fee per entry is required. Area Artists

Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club has awarded E. Jane Stoddard of East Amherst the Catharine T. Ballantyne Award for her watercolor, "Patterns," currently on view in the club's 105th Annual Open Exhibition in the National Arts Club in New York City. The club, founded in 1896, is one of the oldest women's art clubs in the country.

Among those selected for awards in the Buffalo Society of Artists' 105th Catalog Exhibition were: Irene Haupt, gold medal, Susan Copley, silver medal, and Christopher Stangler, bronze medal.

Lancaster/Depew Carolers is seeking new members. The groups sings at local schools, nursing homes and other organizations. Meetings and rehearsals are held at Sunflowers Restaurant, 5809 Broadway, Lancaster. Membership is not limited to residents of the Lancaster/Depew area, however singers must be at least 18 years old.

Arts Council in Buffalo & Erie County has announced the availability of its Arts in Education Partnership Program of Erie and Niagara Counties, which allows for the development and implementation of arts in education programs within those counties' public schools. AIE may originate with any person or group, but the proposal may only be submitted by a school or school district.
