At a time when we are all making sacrifices due to the financial crisis in New York State and our already depressed area, why do union members feel they are exempt? Other Erie County employees accepted County Executive Joel Giambra's belt-tightening proposals, namely no raises and reduced health benefits. The unions, however, told Giambra "to go pound salt."
If this area is ever going to stand tall again, the unions must stop their self-serving practices. If ever cooperation and benevolence were needed, it is now. Business after business has left or folded because of labor unions' unwillingness to play team ball. Their stonewalling is bringing our proud region to its knees.
