Robert E. Kohles, a retired brewery worker, died Sunday (Oct. 14, 2001) in Kenmore Mercy Hospital after a brief illness. He was 85.
A lifelong resident of North Tonawanda, he was employed as a maltster for more than 25 years at Stroh's Brewery, Buffalo. He retired in 1981.
A graduate of North Tonawanda High School, Kohles was a World War II Navy veteran. He served in the Pacific Theater.
He was a member of Ascension Catholic Church, North Tonawanda, and Madonna Council 2535, Knights of Columbus.
Kohles and his wife, the former Olive M. Weiss, enjoyed square and round dancing for many years. She died in March.
Kohles is survived by a son, Richard of Philadelphia; two sisters, Myra Holmes of Plainfield, Ind., and Dorothy Mago of Pocono Pines, Pa.; and three grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Friday in Ascension Church, Robinson and Vandervoort streets, North Tonawanda. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda.
