NIAGARA SALUTING 'HEROES'

Niagara is sponsoring Public Servant Recognition Weekend at its men's hockey games with Army.

Area firefighters can receive two free tickets to Friday's game while police officers and emergency medical personnel can receive tickets to Saturday's game. Tickets are available at the Dwyer Arena ticket office and must be picked up by 5 p.m. today.

Both nights, the first 500 fans will receive free pucks and there will be a postgame autograph session.

WOMEN'S SOCCER: Cheryl Benacci and Lisa Nicola scored first-half goals to lead St. Bonaventure to a 2-0 victory over Niagara in women's soccer. Karen Cunningham recorded her second shutout of the season by making nine saves for the Bonnies (3-9-1). Melissa Himes made seven saves for Niagara (4-9). . . . Amy Drozen (Williamsville East) scored in overtime to give Buffalo State (6-10 overall, 3-7 in the league) a 1-0 State University of New York Athletic Conference win over Fredonia State (6-8-2, 3-6).

MEN'S SOCCER: Canisius' Dave Borchard (Williamsville North) made eight saves as the Golden Griffins (4-8-2) and Lafayette (7-3-2) played to a scoreless tie. . . . Blair Engel had a goal and two assists as Fredonia State (12-3, 7-2) cruised to a 5-0 SUNYAC win over Buffalo State (3-11, 2-7).
