Michael Bauer, 57, who worked as a heavy equipment operator for 12 years for the state Department of Transportation, died Friday (Sept. 28, 2001) in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Buffalo and attended Catholic schools there.
Bauer was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
He was a member of the Grand Island Rod and Gun Club and Bacon Memorial Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed auto racing, woodworking, hunting and growing roses.
Survivors include his wife of 15 years, the former Patricia Ochab; two daughters, Colleen Basso of Niagara Falls and Tammy Swanekamp of the Town of Tonawanda; three sisters, Virginia Starkweather of Springville and Vivian Lorber and Mary Manaher, both of Amherst; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a time to be announced.
