US AIRWAYS TO CLOSE OPERATION IN SYRACUSE

SYRACUSE (AP) -- US Airways plans to close its reservation center in Syracuse, eliminating more than 400 jobs, as a result of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The closing -- as well as closings in Indianapolis and Dayton, Ohio -- were caused by the airline's need to cut costs quickly in the wake of a drastic drop in air travel since terrorists hijacked four jetliners, said Rick Weintraub, a US Airways spokesman.

The Syracuse center, located at Syracuse Hancock International Airport, will close Oct. 19, putting 416 people out of work.
