WHO: Jagged Edge, Jimmy Cozier, Allure and Double Vision
WHEN: 6 p.m. Saturday
WHERE: Buffalo Convention Center
Jagged Edge and Jimmy Cozier, two of the most noteworthy acts in contemporary R&B, headline WBLK's third annual "Jamboree" on Saturday. Jagged Edge, whose single "Where's the Party At" was one of the best songs of the summer, has cultivated a winning image over the past two years as a tough yet tender-hearted quartet of crooners who profess love in a refreshingly matter-of-fact manner. On their ballad smash from last year, "Let's Get Married," the guys proposed to their beloved by singing, "We ain't getting' no younger/we might as well do this."
Cozier, a protegee of Fugee Wyclef Jean, has made a big impact this year with his debut single, "She's All I Got," a soulful ode about a man involved in a crazy love/hate relationship. The moving and assured way that Cozier renders this and other songs from his self-titled album, which features a duet with his J Records labelmate Alicia Keys, suggests that newcomer has the chops to be around for a while.
Performing with Jagged Edge and Cozier is the girl group Allure, which was formerly signed to Mariah Carey's now-defunct Crave label. The act scored a Top 5 pop hit in 1997 with its cover of Lisa Lisa's ballad "All Cried Out."
Also on the bill is Buffalo's own take on the young rapper craze, 12-year-old twins Double Vision, who recently signed to D.M.X.'s Bloodline Records.
