ADDIE R. SPARKS, ACTIVE IN HER CHURCH

Addie R. Sparks, a longtime Buffalo resident and active church member, died Sunday (Sept. 23, 2001) in Sisters Hospital after a long illness. She was 82.

Born Addie Ruth Miller in Laurence County, S.C., she came to Buffalo in the 1940s.

She was a homemaker, former chairwoman of the Mothers Board of Word of Life Community Church and a founder of the Gospel Chorus at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Her husband, William, died in 1968.

She is survived by four daughters, Mattie Detig, Darlene Miller, Valencia Miller and Brenda Miller, all of Buffalo; a son, J.D. of Cheektowaga; a sister, Mattie Menefee of Buffalo; two brothers, Jerome Miller of Washington, D.C., and Waddy Miller of Greenville, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services were held today in Mount Moriah Baptist Church. Burial was in Forest Lawn.
