I have been filled with a variety of emotions that are more or less all-consuming since the horrifying airplane attacks against the United States. Never have I been so emotionally shaken by a national tragedy. It is with this statement that I plead to the media and radio stations not to commercialize these horrendous events.
I do not need to hear the president's words, heart-wrenching phone calls or screams of terror put to the background of "America the Beautiful," "The Star Spangled Banner," "I'm Proud to be an American" or any other song to provoke my emotion. I am quite aware of the tragedy without having it altered by an audio-technician.
I have a newfound patriotism that wells within me each time I hear one of our country's beautiful songs. Please, let Americans show their pride without cheapening it. I do not need to be put into an emotional state -- I am already there!
