A former Batavia resident was confirmed dead this week as a victim of the Sept. 11 attack on the World Trade Center towers.
The New York City medical examiner's office confirmed that Melissa Vincent, a 1990 graduate of Notre Dame High School, was among the victims.
"It's been a long, hard ordeal for the family and everybody associated," said Frank C. Ferrando, a second cousin of Vincent's. Plans are under way for a memorial service Saturday, he said.
Vincent, 29, lived in New Jersey and worked for Alliance Consulting, which had its New York sales office and service delivery center on the 102nd floor of Tower 1, according to a statement on the company's Web site. The twin towers collapsed after being hit by hijacked airliners.
Seven of the 22 employees who work in Alliance's World Trade Center office, including Vincent, were in the building at the time the plane struck and were reported missing afterward.
