Norfolk Southern Railway Co. has hired Indiana-based Bulkmatic Transport to run its terminal oper ations in Buffalo.
Bulkmatic, the country's sixth largest bulk transport company, will oversee operations at Norfolk Southern's Thoroughbred Trans port Co., located off Tifft Street, adjacent to the Bison Yards, in South Buffalo. The transfer station handles food products, chemicals and forest products.
Mike Webb, manager of the railroad's supply chain and distri bution services group, said Bulk matic's involvement will lead to in creased shipments.
"The equipment and services provided by the new operator will enable shippers to increase distri bution in the Buffalo area, as well as throughout the Northeast and Canada, and improve terminal pro cesses and enhance inventory con trol systems," Webb said. Bulkmatic operates 13 other bulk transfer stations for Norfolk Southern around the country.
