Eugene J. Smolkovich, 60, an engineer, died Saturday (Sept. 22, 2001) in his Hamburg home after a long illness.
Born in Buffalo, he was a graduate of Lackawanna High School and served in the Navy from 1959 to 1963 in the Mediterranean, attaining the rank of petty officer third class.
An engineering supervisor for 29 years at Leica Inc., a medical equipment manufacturer in Cheektowaga, Smolkovich had worked at Ever Fab, a manufacturer of precision components, since 1992 as a purchaser.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Hamburg.
He and Antoinette Piccirilli were married in 1965.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Steven of Lake View and Craig of Buffalo; a daughter, Anne Marie of Buffalo; a brother, John of Mesa, Ariz.; and a grandson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Our Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 3680 South Park Ave., Blasdell, after prayers at 8:45 in Lombardo Funeral Home, 3060 Abbott Road, Orchard Park. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Hamburg.
