Luis Rodriguez, a leading Latino writer and author of the 1993 international best seller "Always Running: La Vida Loca, Gang Days in L.A.," will present a free youth workshop (on a first-come, first-serve basis) at 4 p.m. Thursday in West Side Community Services, 161 Vermont St. The program will be immediately followed at 7:30 p.m. by a reading, discussion and book-signing. Rodriguez will also give a reading and discussion as part of the Wednesdays at 4 Plus series at 8 p.m. Friday in Allen Hall, University at Buffalo's South Campus.

Cole Swensen, author of "Oh" and "Try" and the New American Writing Award-winning "Noon," will give a 3:30 p.m. lecture Tuesday, titled "A Hand Writing" in 412 Clemens Hall, University at Buffalo's North Campus. Swenson will also give a poetry reading as part of the Wednesdays at 4 Plus series at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Center for the Arts Screening Room, UB's North Campus.
