Jane Bryant Quinn will retire from her "Staying Ahead" column on Oct. 1.
Beginning Oct. 7, The Buffalo News will introduce Michelle Singletary as a new syndicated Sunday columnist, writing "The Color of Money," also on the topic of personal finance.
Quinn is one of the nation's best-known personal finance journalists. Besides her newspaper column, she writes for Newsweek and Good Housekeeping magazines, and was an Emmy Award winning commentator with CBS News for 10 years.
Singletary, a business writer on the staff of the Washington Post, started writing her column in 1997. "The Color of Money" won first place in the major newspaper category of the ICI Education Foundation/American University awards for excellence in personal finance reporting in 1999. A year earlier, it won first place for business writing from the National Association of Black Journalists.
Prior to writing her column, Singletary was a banking reporter at the Washington Post, and previously had been a business reporter at the Baltimore Evening Sun.
She is a graduate of the University of Maryland and holds a master's degree in business from Johns Hopkins University. She is married with three children.
