Herbert M. Dowling, a retired mail carrier, died Tuesday (Sept. 18, 2001) in Sylvia House hospice in Ocala, Fla. He was 87.
Born in Buffalo, he served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He moved to Ocala from Eggertsville in 1978.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church while in Eggertsville and Incarnation Lutheran Church in Ocala. He also was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the National Association of Retired Federal Workers.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bernice; a daughter, Patricia Muck of Eggertsville; two sons, Paul of Anchorage, Alaska, and Peter of Williamsville; a brother, William of Englewood, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
