EX-LAWYER FACES CHARGES IN THEFT OF $19,000

Don Bergevin, a disbarred Buffalo-area lawyer, faces a possible seven-year prison term for allegedly stealing more than $19,000 from an elderly woman, prosecutors confirmed.

John J. DeFranks, first deputy Erie County district attorney, and financial crimes prosecutor John C. Doscher both said an Erie County grand jury has indicted Bergevin on a third-degree grand larceny charge.

Bergevin, who is still on probation from his 1998 conviction for misdemeanor petit larceny and falsifying business records that led to his disbarment that summer, allegedly stole money from the elderly Buffalo woman between February and October 2000, sources confirmed.
