BENJAMIN B. RICHARDS, WORLD WAR II VET

A memorial service for Benjamin B. Richards, a former library resources administrator and Buffalo resident, will be held next July in Dubuque, Iowa.

Richards, 84, died Aug. 27, 2001, in Walnut Creek, Calif., where he had lived for 14 years after retiring as director of the Western New York Library Resources Council. He held the post for 13 years.

A Dubuque native, he was a graduate of the University of Western Iowa, Case Western Reserve University School of Library Science and Claremont University Graduate School. He was college librarian at Knox College, Kansas State College, Chatham College and Texas Woman's University before coming to Buffalo.

Richards was a World War II naval officer and a life member of the American Library Association.

He is survived by a daughter, Janet MacFarland of Dallas; a sister, Mary of Dubuque; and a grandson.
