THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: This year's crop of summer movies left a lot to be desired. Which film - good or bad - surprised you most and why?
"My favorite film and the one that surprised me most was "Planet of the Apes.' I had the great fortune to see it at an Imaxx theater, and the special effects were stunning. I saw all of the original "Planet of the Apes' movies at the old Riviera Theater on Broadway as a child. This ending was so spectacular (I can't say more and spoil it for anyone else), but if you saw the movie, you know what I mean."
- Paul Talowski, Buffalo
"Surprised is too weak a word for "Moulin Rouge.' How about astounding? Every other summer release should have been drowned at birth. The beautiful dream world and amazing fantasy of "Moulin Rouge,' as well as the stunning music and dance, will not be seen on screen again in my lifetime, I'm sure. It was a one-time look back at a terrific era of musical, and even those oldies never reached the level of this one. Thanks to everyone involved in this most memorable treat of 2001."
- Shirley Miller, Kenmore
