A CENTURY AGO at the Pan-American Exposition was a time of adventure and fun for some of the people who paid visits to Buffalo and its world-famous fairgrounds. For example, there was a teacher who attended 33 times and a law student who walked from Lincoln, Neb. . . .

ON THIS DAY - In 1938, a hurricane struck parts of New York and New England, causing widespread damage and claiming more than 600 lives. . . . In 1981, the Senate unanimously confirmed the nomination of Sandra Day O'Connor to become the first female justice on the Supreme Court. . . .

PAST AND PRESENT members of Kenmore United Church of Christ are invited to help the church celebrate its 75th anniversary, according to a note from Patricia Burgstahler. She said events include a banquet Oct. 20 and a special church service the next day.

Burgstahler said reservations and payment are required for the dinner and can be made before the Oct. 10 deadline by calling Betty Clark at 876-1335. . . .

LIP-SMACKING TIME - Barbecued half-chickens with macaroni salad, baked beans, coleslaw, munchies for the little ones, dessert and beverage will be served from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday in Eden United Methodist Church, 2820 E. Church St. (off Route 62). The tab at the door will be $6.50 for adults, $4.50 for children 5 to 12 and free for younger than 5. Tickets are 50 cents cheaper if bought ahead of time. POLISH SAUSAGE dinners will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Sikora Post 1322, American Legion, 950 Payne Ave., North Tonawanda. The menu includes sauerkraut, parsley potatoes, glazed carrots, rye bread and butter, and beverage, all for $5. . . .
