Curtain Up!, Buffalo's annual celebration honoring the opening of the theater season, will begin with the "mayor's prologue" at 5 p.m. in the Market Arcade, 617 Main St. Following at 5:30 p.m. will be Act I - Cocktails and Gala Dinner, and Act II - Live Theater Performances at 8:30 p.m. Following theater performances, at about 10:30 p.m., will be Act III - The Cast Party under the main tent in Fountain Plaza. Other sanctioned Curtain Up! events include performances by Pick of the Crop Dance, a Global Dance Party and a Winefest.
Tony Galla and Gap Mangione will play the Tralf, 100 Theater Place, at 8:30 p.m.
The Waiting Room, a nationally touring tribute to Genesis, will be on stage at 11 p.m. in the Funhouse, 1830 Abbott Road, Lackawanna.
The Shams and the Parlor Squares, a four-piece cabaret/jazz band, will play an 11 p.m. show in Mohawk Place, 47 E. Mohawk St.
Ulu, plus the Thought, will be on stage at 10:30 p.m. in Nietzsche's, 248 Allen St.
RX Bandits, along with the Benjamins, Allister and the Imports, will play at 6 p.m. in Cloud 9, 3057 Main St.
Over 60 professional dancers, plus DJ Charles Masters, Alison Pipitone, Panjandrum with members of 1 2/8 Path, the Sherry Martin Unique School of Dance and more, will participate in Global Dance Party at 5:30 p.m. in Utopia, 228 Franklin St.
"Heartstring: A Celebration of Dance Theatre," will be performed at 8:30 p.m. by Pick of the Crop Dance in the Allendale Theatre, 203 Allen St.
