BIG DIG PACT MAY BE REVISED

A major contractor for the Big Dig, a highway diversion beneath downtown Boston, has offered to renegotiate its contract amid soaring costs for the $14.5 billion project.

Some members of the Turnpike Authority have threatened to end the contract with Bechtel/Parsons Brinckerhoff if costs aren't brought under control.

They demanded that Bechtel return up to $250 million of the approximately $1.5 billion paid to it since 1986.
