Country singer Ronnie Milsap walked onstage wearing blue jeans and an American flag shirt as he began his performance at the Anderson County Fair.
"It's great to be at the fair, yes sir!" Milsap said to the crowd of 1,500. "What a difference you've made in my life. The real difference in my life is you."
Milsap, 58, has a career that spans three decades, 40 No. 1 hits and six Grammys.
Dick Wilson, special events coordinator for fair organizer Strates Shows, said the concert provided relief from the news of last week's terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington.
"President Bush told people that he didn't want the attacks to stop people from living their lives," he said.
